So, in the first week after the end of NaNoWriMo 2012 and, whether you’re licking your wounds because you couldn’t quite get to that 50,000 words or you’re lounging in your victory, now is the time to get something that’ll really help you remember your NaNoWriMo 2012 experience!
The Offices of Letters and Light (which run NaNoWriMo, in case you didn’t already know) has a whole selection of products for those of you that don’t just want to write but also want to wear their latest logo proudly. What I do quite enjoy about their designs is that they’ve resisted pinning down NaNoWriMo with a single logo, giving them the flexibility to design a new one for each year and make each one distinctive. This can be a double edged sword though because I really didn’t like the 2010 design, thinking it was way too childish for me to want to wear. That said, you can still see past NaNoWriMo t shirts and purchase them as well as the current Venn diagram shirt for 2012.
I have a few goodies of my own from NaNoWriMo, one of which was purchased this year. Read on for my personal review of merchandise available from the Offices of Letters and Light
NaNoWriMo 2009 Novel Machine Design T Shirt
My first NaNoWriMo where I actually won was something I certainly wanted to commemorate and I loved this design so I purchased it! Right from the moment I opened it, I was impressed by the quality of this tee and all NaNoWriMo shirts are pretty good prices for those of you shopping in the UK (though you do pay for it a little in international delivery). Comfortable and perfectly fitted, this printed design hasn’t flaked in the wash and is wonderfully soft. With a quirky design as well that has had people asking more than once about it, the 2009 t shirt design is available in orange and black and is even at a reduced price so I don’t think they have many left. NaNoWriMo Ladies V Neck T Shirt
I actually never purchased this ladies t shirt and it was delivered to me by mistake instead of my novel machine tee. When I contacted the Office of Letters and Light, they immediately sent me the t shirt I ordered and never requested payment or return of the original shirt. This gives them serious points for their customer service, especially as they happily footed another international delivery charge. That said, I don’t think the quality of this tee is as good as my novel machine t shirt. The fabric is much thinner and the design has faded a little, though it also hasn’t flaked at all. This is a much lighter shirt, perfect for wearing in sunny weather or layering over a white long sleeve shirt for a layered effect. Again, it’s very nicely shaped and I love the printed design as well as the v neck. Currently not available on the NaNoWriMo store.
I adore this poster and it’s perfect for any bibliophile BEFORE you get into the fact that I’m a serious fan of NaNoWriMo. I love the typewriter with the golden fingerprints across the design. Any fan of typography will appreciate the simplicity of the design and, whilst I think this is a pretty expensive poser it also looks incredible framed and happy living on my wall. Like my t shirts, people have commented on how attractive it is, which is well worth the payment. But, of course, you don’t have to frame your poster as the high gloss paper In my opinion, there is no better way to commemorate your achievement if you’ve won NaNoWriMo this year than this excellent typewriter poster!
My Novel USB Wristband
My latest purchase from the NaNoWriMo store, this black silicone wristband features a blue embossed “My Novel” as well as the NaNoWriMo crest. The 2GB USB stick is where the wristband does up and this is surprisingly firm, I’ve not had any experience of it coming loose unexpectedly though, of course, it must be noted that it’s still very new. The biggest problem for me has been that the wristband is too large, resulting in me leaving it in sleeves of coats and jumpers because it’s simply slipped off. Sadly this has resulted in me keeping it in my bag rather than on my wrist and I think NaNoWriMo should consider making a smaller size for women, then again I have a tiny wrist even by women’s standards so perhaps I was just being hopeful! This item is currently sold out on their official site.
Whatever interests you, I’ve had a great experience in ordering through the Office of Letters and Light. The delivery isn’t amazingly fast if you’re ordering to the UK, though obviously this should be expected for international packages. As I’ve already stated, their customer service is excellent if a mistake is made and the prices are also excellent compared to what I’m used to when purchasing literature goodies from UK sites. Check it out if you’re a dedicated NaNoWriMo writer!
